About Us

BooksNI.com is a web space dedicated to Northern Ireland books. It was established in 2009 by brothers Wesley and Malcolm Johnston after they identified a need for a single place where people could find out about books which are authored by people from Northern Ireland, published in Northern Ireland or are about Northern Ireland topics. The site was officially launched on 18th June 2010 at the Linen Hall Library.

BooksNI.com features a bookshop where you can browse and buy from an increasing range of local books. The bookshop is still in its infancy as we are working hard to secure a supply chain for the large number of prominent local authors, so watch this space! Looking for a local gift idea? No more wading through oceans of books from around the world trying to find that local topic.

Many large online bookshops do not feature large numbers of locally published titles, gems in their own right, but which do not get exposure or even a listing on big bookshops which do not take the time to seek out and stock books individually. Subject areas covered range from local history to fiction, politics to sport and biography to photography.

In addition, BooksNI.com will keep you updated on the local publishing scene with regular updates on new titles, special offers, author information and reviews. Many local publishers are already on board with BooksNI.com and we will be announcing other people who will be getting involved in the coming months. There are many exciting developments planned in the coming months so bookmark the site and check back regularly.

BooksNI.com was born out of Colourpoint Books, one of Northern Ireland’s leading local publishers. Founded in 1993 by Sheila and Norman Johnston, the company has quickly expanded to become one of the largest local publishers today. The team founded the self-publishing and book design company April Sky Design in 2002. Seeing the problem small publishers faced getting their stock into shops, we founded book distribution company MiMO Distribution in 2008 which now distributes for a dozen local publishers.

BooksNI.com is the latest addition to the family. BooksNI.com - books by people from Northern Ireland, books published in Northern Ireland, books about Northern Ireland and books from Northern Ireland.
